Why do I make art?
I am a curious artist. Discovery, invention and risk-taking are an important part of my creative process. My work often begins unplanned – a joyful and often energetic exploration of shape, line and colour that is influenced by my design background.
Experimenting with ideas and materials - oils and cold wax, acrylics, collage and other mixed media – I build, destroy, erase and paint over, mindful of finding a balance between control and spontaneity. Inspiration for my paintings comes from many places, but it often happens right in the studio, sparked by play.
My best work happens when I allow my intuition to guide me, creating metaphors and abstract narratives though marks, colour and texture. It happens when I let the painting tell me what it wants.
